Duplicate Jobs Fail with Generic Error Email

When running duplicate jobs in Lightning, the job will fail. The user may receive an email like the following:
Hello [System Admin].
An error stopped us from finishing your duplicate job in [Org name]. In Setup, go to Duplicate Jobs and try rerunning the job.
Salesforce Duplicate Management
1. Login as an administrator
2. Go to Duplicate Jobs in Setup
3. Select "New Job"
4. Select a duplicate matching rule and object, then run the job
There is no workaround at this time.
