Custom Quick Actions Not Functioning for Person Accounts in Lightning Experience

Organizations using custom Quick Actions to create or update Person Accounts will find these actions do not fully function in Lightning Experience and may result in an error on Save.

In any organization w/ both Person Accounts and Lightning Experience enabled:

1. Go to Setup | Object Manager | Account.
2. Click on Buttons, Links and Actions.
3. Click New Action.
4. Select Action Type of "Update a Record".
5. Save with default action layout.
6. Go to an Account page layout and add the custom action to the Salesforce1 & Lightning Actions section.
7. Save page layout.
8. View a Person Account record.
9. Select the custom action from the page level actions drop down (in the upper right corner of the page).
10. Click Save.

EXPECTED RESULTS: The user should be able to save changes, including updates to the Account Name.

ACTUAL RESULTS: The user is not able to update the Account name or Save the changes with the action. An error message may be received:

Unable to create/update fields: Name. Please check the security settings of this field and verify that it is read/write for your profile or permission set.

None at this time.

Custom quick actions cannot be used to successfully create or update Person Account records in Lightning Experience because the Person Account compound name field is not currently supported.

Please note that this issue is related to the Account Name field not displaying the individual name fields when updating a person account record using a custom quick action (i.e. Salutation, First Name, Last Name).

The fix for this issue resolves this problem, however the limitation around custom quick action layouts not supporting person account specific fields still exists. See the help topic below for more information:
