In a Community with a URL path (ex: https://yourcommunity.ap5.force.com/communitypath/), attempting to upload an image in a Rich Text field on a Community object detail page may fail with the error, 'Unable to upload the image'.
This issue occurs when there is no root Community without a URL path (such as https://communityrterepro-developer-edition.ap5.force.com/) in the org, or a root Community exists but the user attempting to upload an image is not a member.
1. Ensure that the running user (Internal or External) is not a member of a community that contains no URL path.
2. In a Community, attempt to upload an image into a Rich Text field.
3. Observe the error.
Since the issue is isolated to inserting images in Rich Text fields within a Community, users with access to the internal org may be able to log in to the internal org to edit the Rich Text field and insert their images.
Additionally, if no communities exist that contain no URL path you can create one and add the needed users to that community membership. As long as a community exists that contains no path and the running user is a member then this error can be circumvented.
The community does not need to be active.
