Provide a simple step by step guide to writing an Apex trigger

Salesforce Platform, Apex & Visualforce, Developer Tools, Non-Product Ideas, Large Enterprise Ideas, Large Enterprise, Learning Center Topics

Salesforce has provided ample documentation on Apex code.   It is almost too much for the beginner to take in.

A simple step by step guide to writing and deploying a basic trigger to perform a simple, common task would unlock this fantastic capability for the rest of us and greatly increase the amount of low-level, practical innovation on the platform.

It would also help some of us get around the formula compile limits without the rather unsatisfactory workaround of using Workflow.

Such a guide might cover a worked example and talk us step by step through the process of writing the trigger in a Sandbox or Developer org, writing test classes, then deploying to Production.

This would open up a whole world of Salesforce potential for me, and I am sure for many others too.
