When trying to create a custom object that represents a person...there are a few features available on standard objects (Leads, Contacts) that can't be used. I can think of 4 sub features...see below. This will become increasingly important as people start to take advantage of the force.com platform to build out custom applications. 1 - "Name" There is no custom field type to represent a person's name. This should combine First Name & Last Name and be used as the main reference field for a person custom object. It's possible to create a custom formula field that imitates this, but it's not the main field used to identify the record, so related lists don't look right. 2 - "Address" There isn't an "address" type for custom fields. You need to create separate State, Zip, etc. fields, and display them separately. Don't forget about localization ;) 3 - "Send Email" The Send Email button doesn't work with custom objects. It doesn't know how to treat a custom object as the "who", nor what field to use as the email address. 4 - "Outlook Sync" A user should have the option of synchronizing custom person objects with their Outlook contacts.
