Show Contact First Name and Last Name columns in related lists in lightning

Lightning Experience

I have a related list and am wondering why the contact first and last name not showing in Lightning Experience?

For more detail, I have a custom object called Sector and another custom object SectorContactAssociation that is the junction object. I have a master-detail relationship field for Contact set first and another M-D relationship field for Sector as a second field.

Everything is working as far as the master-detail and many-to-many links is concerned.

the only thing I can't seem to do is display the Contact First Name and Contact Last Name fields on the related list of Contacts on the Sector page under related lists.

I checked permissions and there's CRED on the SectorContactAssocaition object and Read on the Sector object. By detault the other settings seem to be fine and I can pull email, account name, contact owner, etc but still the first and last name won't show.

I found out that in order to display the first name and last name columns I need to create a custom formula field HYPERLINK(Id,FirstName) in order to display the first name. I don't know why this doesn't work in lightning. it works in classic just fine!
