Allow User Search in Account Merge in Lightning

Accounts & Contacts

Ability to merge accounts in Lightning Experience similar to the Account Merge in Classic. Although Lightning does provide the View/Find Duplicates feature on Accounts, this doesn't allow the user to actually run a search for specific account name, etc. to locate duplicates in order to merge. Please incorporate this functionality into Lightning too!

New in Winter '18, and only in Lightning, you can add any two or three items to a Duplicate Record Set (DRS) for merging. DRS are standard objects, with fully modifiable c/r/u/d, but their default permissions may be limited to admins by default in your Salesforce org: https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/winter18/release-notes/rn_sales_duplicatemanagement_duplicate_record_sets_lightning.htm

With this, you can merge any records of the same object– whether they'd be found by a search, Matching Rules, or neither.

As for Matching Rules and their ability to recognize duplicates: Matching Rules are highly customizable, and you can have multiple rules per object. So if you're not pleased with their results please consider taking advantage of the many customization options. Our Trailblazer Community discusses these often: https://success.salesforce.com/_ui/core/chatter/groups/GroupProfilePage?g=0F9300000001tav
