Lightning for Outlook with Single Sign On

Lightning Experience

When using Lightning for Outlook, users need to login and go through an authentication flow before being able to use the plugin. When an environment is setup with SSO, users normally do not have a password because they normally wouldn't need it to login into Salesforce.

It would be very useful if Single Sign On is also supported when logging in through the Lightning for Outlook plugin. Now we have to reset the password for each user to allow them to login to Lightning for Outlook.

This topic is fascinating, as it brings many setting combinations and possibilities depending on how orgs are set up around SSO and MyDomain.

The first-ever time an Outlook user uses Lightning for Outlook presents a Login button. That button directs the Outlook user to the regular Salesforce login page, in a popup, like soUser-added image:

Orgs with classic MyDomain and SSO configurations let users click on the link "Use Custom Domain" and input their proprietary domain name there. By the way, there is no way to pre-emptively store that name in Outlook or in the Office Add-In. That's an idea worth creating and voting for.

When users have an SSO with Salesforce, clicking on the Continue button will directly take them into Salesforce and the rest of that initial authentication, without requiring a user name/pwd. The experience will look like this:
