Turning off Global Search in Winter Release should NOT turn off chatter

Chatter

Our users are finding that the new Global Search actually takes longer and more clicks to get to information that previously only took 1 click.  If we turn off the Global Search feature it also disables the Chatter feature. Our org would like to have the option of turning off  the new Global Search but retain the chatter feature.

Here are some reasons for keeping Chatter and Global Search separate.
  1. Not all teams use Chatter, and the new Global Search is heavily related to Chatter features
  1. Current search functionality is much cleaner and quicker.  We query by webID or Account name 90% of the time, and we can just select that in the drop down and it returns exactly what we want.
  1. New functionality requires extra steps to narrow down the search we want, and it still can return a myriad of items (case notes, attachments etc.) that is just noise and it slows down the search as well.
