Idea is generally available. to Outlook Selective Contact Sync

Email Clients & Office Suites

I would like to be able to choose what Contacts are synced from down to Outlook. Right now it is all Contacts that I own and All Contacts on the Accounts I own. I have some Contacts that I own but do not need to be brought down to Outlook and there are other Contacts that are owned by people below me that I would like to have in my Outlook. The only way I can see to do this now is to create Duplicate Contacts within for the Contacts that I do not own and for the ones I do own is to just put up with having them in my Outlook.

    Mariscal and Others:

Thanks for your comments and feedback.  Salesforce for Outlook (new in Winter '11) includes functionality to control which contacts sync from Salesforce to Outlook.

To sync a subset of your Salesforce contacts, your administrator will need to define a data set filter on your assigned Outlook configuration.  (eg. Contacts on user's Opportunities)  You can watch a demo video of how to set this up.

We recognize you need more than a criteria-based mechanism to control how data syncs.  In an upcoming release, we're introducing Chatter Contact integration.  If a user follows a Contact in Chatter, it will sync to Outlook automatically.
