Multiple Profiles assigned to a user

User Administration

It would be really nice if a user could have multiple profiles. We have run into an issue where we have a group of call center users that have the standard Call Center Profile. But now 5 of those users need to be able to add/modify solutions. So now i have to have a Call Center Profile and a Call Center w/ Solutions Profile. Now if one of the sales users needs to be able edit solutions, I now have to have 4 different profiles: 1. Call Center Profile 2. Call Center w/ Solutions Profile 3. Sales Profile 4. Sales w/ Solutions Profile It would be ideal if you could have a Call Center Profile, Sales Profile, and then a Solutions Profile. Then based on the multiple profiles the user will have access to additional items. And be able to have any combination so you are managing fewer profiles. Especially since you can't have a description for a profile.

@cain - Thanks for separating out the idea to parent permission sets to profiles.  I'm hoping we get a good discussion around the idea there.

For everyone else who have commented on the idea, the reason why we've marked this partially implemented is that not all access controls supported on profiles are also supported on permission sets. However, we have been steadily adding access controls. You can now create a permission set with:
    1. User permissions
    2. Object permissions (CRUD)
    3. Field permissions (FLS)
    4. Apex Page access
    5. Apex Class access
    6. Tab Settings
    7. Assigned Apps
    8. Connected Apps (Winter '13 pilot)
    permission set

As a result, you can start thinking about a profile as just permission set [0] which represents the least number of permissions you need across the broadest group of users and create permission sets that represent logical collections of functional jobs or even granular tasks that a user needs to perform.
