Where is this field used (page layout or formula)

Globalization & Custom Schema

When trying to clean out stale custom fields, or better organize them, it would be very useful to be able to see which Page Layout(s) the field is already available on or what formula depends upon it. Why not add to the Custom Field Definition Detail screen a label called Page Layout(s) Available to indicate where this custom field is at least available. Another Label could indictate if this field is part of a calculated field formula. If it is not available anywhere, you know you are safe to delete it. If it is available, at least, you can see whether it is crucial to another fields (part of a formula).

All, as you point out, we are long overdue for an update here. Last year we implemented a set of new thresholds to guarantee responses to popular ideas, but it looks like this one was missed. We owe you a sincere apology for that. While it has been quiet here, the product teams have definitely been reviewing and discussing this request. In the spirit of transperancy, this is not currently on the short term roadmap. We definitely recognize the value that this type of functionality would bring and have it on our longterm roadmap to deliver (safe harbor, of course). We have a few priority items we need to deliver beforehand, so this will be a few releases out. I know this isn't the ideal answer, but we will update this space as more information becomes available.
