I am extremely worried about Salesforce Classic. I love it and I do not like (at all!) the Salesforce Lightening. I am spending hundreds of hours setting my company up on Salesforce. Will there always be classic? Will we be forced to change someday?

Hi Toni,

In my point of view, Classic will exist eventhough Lightning has been added with new features till the recent Dreamforce. Salesforce also tells that "Saying Hello to Lightning Experience Doesn’t Mean Saying Goodbye to Salesforce Classic".

But,the new Release Notes are now making the point that certain new features will be "available in Lightning Experience only", also we had seen that almost all Salesforce product presentations have been in the Lightning Experience since Dreamforce. So for atleast the coming two or three years, Classic will be there, as now. But we cant predict about the future business, since trends and trendsetters in Cloud are changing day by day.

Have a nice day.

Saying Hello to Lightning Experience Doesn’t Mean Saying Goodbye to Salesforce Classic

Hi Toni,

I am not an employee of Salesforce, but as an admin, I would say Classic is going to there for at least couple of years. This is because Lightning has it's own issues for now and not all Classic features are available in Lightning. However, Lightning is the way to go as there are features which are now being added to Lightning but not to Classic. Eventually it will be Lightning, but that won't be (safe harbor!)  soon.

You can take a look at the below links to understand the differences between Classic and Lightning features and then decide:

https://help.salesforce.com/HTViewHelpDoc?id=lex_aloha_comparison.htm&language=en_US

The below link should give you some hope.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,
Karthik

Thank you to all of you.
I have tried out lightening and absolutely hate it.  It is slower than classic.  I have spent 100 hours setting up my company on classic.   The lightening experience has no contrast in color and it seems much slower and difficult to read.  I thought it would be faster?  There would have to be a lot of improvements to the lightening format before I ever switchd.  Therefore, my question.  I sure hope it will improve 500% before they ever make us switch.  It has now become a huge worry for me as I have spent a long long while setting up my objects.  Thank you all for your time and advice.  I am new to this so this is awesome.

Hi Toni. Definitly reach out to Salesforce or your rep and provide feedback on lighting.  I know there is an idea about improving lighting speed (Salesforce has been working on this for a couple of releases).    I initially had a similiar reaction as you when lighting first came out.   It has steadily improved over time and I can't imagine going back to classic now.  Good luck!

I'm worried about this as well because I've recenlty been told that Lightening is going to be pushed weather we want it or not.

I've been using Salesforce since 2001. Yes, 2001. I've been a loyal proponent of Salesforce for years. Hell, I went to dreamforce when there was only a handful of us there. However, I HATE Lightning. It's not because I'm old school, beause I'm not. I love new technology and clean interfaces; however, Salesforce runs unbearably slow in Lightning. Way slower than classic. The UI needs a lot of work still. And of course, their is a slew of things that simply don't work in Lightning (I just discovered that all our Territory rules now don't work in Lightning but work perfectly in classic. Add this to our growing list). They pushed this before it was ready for primetime. Maybe a few more years. Maybe.
