text field formula

Hello!

I have a formula text field - we'll call it Product which copies the value from another picklist set called Master Product. I have another picklist called Finance. I want to match the value within the Product text field to a picklist value within Finance.

Scenario :
1.  In my Master Product Picklist, I pick Product A.
2. Product A appears in my Product text field.
3. I want my Product A value to equal a specific picklist value. We'll call it Phone. Product B equals Car... and so on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Nij,

What's the region parameter now? This is very confusing...
A formula cannot be a master in a dependency and cannot generate an automation.
I woudl probably create a PB or WF rule to see if the Master picklist was changed, then update the Finance picklist accordingly. It would depend on the amount of values, but having some table and code to do the update sounds like the best way. Maybe flows could achieve that. I had a question about something similar here:

Hi Nij,

Not sure I understand. Do you want the Finance value to overwrite the formula field (Product) when it is populated? Do you still want it to show the value in Master Product if Finance is not populated? Or do you want to concatenate the 2?

Hi Eric, I just need to link the Value in Product to a value in Finance. Sorry, I realized i wasn't clear.

So my Product value = Phone

I need that Phone value to map to a value in the Finance Picklist... we'll call that value Mobile

Nij,

I may be way off here, but do you want to use Picklist Dependencies? If you select Phone from the Master Product, you can only select Finance picklist values Car, Mobile, etc?

I can't use a dependncy because that Product field is a formula text field that is taking a value from another field.

I just want to link the value in the Product field to a value in the Finance Picklist.

Like this...

1. I choose a value from my Master Product item picklist -> Phone
2. Phone appears in the Product text box
3. That value Phone then updates the field value in my Finance Picklist value -> Mobile.

Hello Nij,

Is there only one value on your Finance Picklist for each value on your Master Product Picklist? In other words, would it always be Mobile, when selecting Phone?

Hi Nij,

Since your formula has the same value as the Master Product item picklist, why don't you do a dependency between this picklist and the Finance picklist?
Not sure what the formula has to do with it. Is the Master Product item picklist in a separate object?

Because there are four different regions so I can't make four dependent picklists. It has to be depdenent on the value in the text field.

Tony, correct. Each Master Product Picklist has a value in the Finance Picklist. The issue is that there are four regions with products (four picklist sets). That's why I am trying to figure out how to map the value that appears in that text field to the finance product.
