my users are able to change lead status via inline edit, how will i restrict them?

Inline editing if enabled will allow it on the record page and list views. If you have validation rules in place, it should behave the same way on both record page and list views. As it stands inline editing is disabled on list views if an object has multiple record types. In your case, this is not the case.

Option 1: Inline editing can be turned off, but it will be turned off for everyone.

Goto to Setup>User Interface>Enable Inline Editing.

Option 2: Create validation rules that enforce data rules required to move a status. These rules will be enforced on a lead page and on list view during inline editing.

Thanks Leslie for quick response,
I want my users to use inline edit but i don't want them to change lead status from view via inline edit  since it will bypass my workflow for qualifying lead and there are some business rules associated with lead status. I am wondering that user will not be able to change status from view only from edit page.
