Opportunity report to show if activity was created within first 8 hours of opportunity creation

Hello Community!

My executive team would like to monitor how quickly an activity is created, after the opportunity is created.  I want to also see opportunities where no activity is created, so I can't use a custom report for opptys with activities here.  
I've created a date/time formula field on the oppty AND the activity (Thanks Steve!), but trying to determine how I can highlight the opportunities where the sales person didn't interact with the customer within the first 8 hours or so of oppty creation?
would some sort of boolean formula field on oppty work here, based on the activity create date?

You could do that with a simple Formula(Checkbox) field like this 
OR(
(FirstActivityDate - CreatedDate) > 8,
AND(
ISBLANK(FirstActivityDate),
(NOW() - CreatedDate) > 8
)
)

How would I create (configure) the "firstactivitydate" field on the opportunity?

I'm thinking a field on the activity to mark the date, or just field on opportunity, then a workflow to put the date of that first activity on the opportunty? but curious is this is possible, or if no workflow is possible.

haha, well I did that after I asked you the second part! :-)  You jogged my brain into doing a process on the task to update the field you referenced on the oppty.  thank you!
