Update new field date based on another field using workflows?

Hi!

I am trying to automate a case due date process for one of our teams. They have requested that the "Requested Completion Date" be 2 days before the Latest Completion Date field.

Is it as simple as inserting the 'Latest Completion Date' field and just '-2' in the formula? I'm not quite sure how to use the formulas on a specific field and base the update on that field date.

Is this possible?

Hi Manmeet,

If someone manually fills in the Latest Completion Date, and you just want to set the field to be 2 days before that? Then yeah - just adding -2 after the field in a formula will go back 2 calendar days.

Hi Manmeet,

Will the "Requested Completion Date" field value be always 2 days before the "Latest Completion Date" field. If yes you can create the "Requested Completion Date" field as a formula field and value should be as below.
Latest_Completion_Date__c - 2

If it is already a date field and somehow cannot be changed to formula, you can use workflow rule to check if "Latest Completion Date" value is changed using the formula

ISCHANGED(Latest_Completion_Date__c)

Once it is true you can use the above formula(Latest_Completion_Date__c - 2) as the field update value.

Thanks.

Thanks Sunil!

I'm still trying to figure out the best method on solving this for the team. They're basically wanting a better method of due dates and priorities.

Ideally, since we have an SLA of 3-5 days on requests, that most of our cases would have the Requested date = Latest Date - 2

But there are instances where a request comes in Monday, with latest due date of Tuesday. These are not common but do happen.

All the while, I need to also update the priority. So that it starts off as Low but if Requested Date = Latest Date - 1, Priority = Medium. If Requested Date = Latest Date, Priority = High.

This is overly complicated so I'm not sure I will do this for them but thought I'd try at least.

If you want to give it a shot, we'll be happy to help you implement the priority as well. You could use a time-based workflow or process, for example, to automatically change the priority to Normal or High 1 and 2 days before the due date.

Ahh I see, that should work! Thanks for the quick reply.
