I have created a new lead source value. I can see it in the object manager. when I try to choose it fgrom the drop down menu it doesn't show up as an option. Obviously I'm missing 1 step. Please share your thoughtful solutions.

Hi Deb,

Have you added the new value to the Record Types.

Actually each record type can have a different set of picklists,

1. You can add the record type on creation of the values.
2. If they weren't added to the record type on creation of the values then you need to go into each record type and add them in.

Hi Deb,

Please check the below items.

  1. Ensure that your new Lead Source option is active, You can check this by Navigating to Setup-> Object Manager -> Lead -> Fields -> Lead Source -> You will see all options here.
  2. If you have any Record Types on the Lead Object. To check the record types Navigate to Setup-> Object Manager -> Lead -> Record Types, If no record Type, you can stop here.
  3. If you find Record Types in Step 2, please click on the record type -> Go to "Picklists Available for Editing" section and click on the "Edit" next to Lead Source, Move your new options from Available to Selected Box and Save.

Thank you, this is the information that I needed.  I have completed all of the steps listed but it still does not show up.  I have logged off and logged back in.  Once difference between your instructions and what I did was where you have "Lead" losted I have to replace that with "Contact" but I do not think that would make a difference.  I just cannot figure out whay it will not show up.

Steps to follow :

Setup -> Customize -> Leads -> Record Types (Choose the Record Type) -> Picklists Available for Editing Section 
-> Edit (against the Lead Source field) -> Add the new value from "Available Values" to "Selected Values" -> Save

Thank you for the information.  Yes I have done everything that you said and for some reason it still does not show up as an option to select.

Could you please share a screen-shot of picklist values you have added and the page where you are not seeing the new option?

The record you are viewing, does it have the same Record Type? Kindly check and confirm.

Hi Deb,

I could identify that the values of pick list in both Screen shots are different and not in the same order. 

Example : "Public Relations" is not in Selected Values list in Screenshot1 where as it is not showing up in Screenshot2. 

Kindly verify and confirm that is it the same Contact Object record you are looking into.
