Dashboard component can't draw chart

My dashboard component says "We can't draw this chart because there is no data." I've seen this question posted and I've tried the workaround listed here:

https://success.salesforce.com/issues_view?id=a1p3A0000008uT4QAI&title=lightning-experience-dashboard-table-component-showing-no-data-in-lightning

but I am still having no luck in getting my dashboard component to show a chart. I don't want to switch to Classic to see this component because my users have only used Lightning experience. Is there any way to fix this issue? The component not showing data is currently listed as the first dashboard component but it still isn't showing data.

I spoke with support and they were able to help me resolve the issue. I was told this is mainly an issue with reports filtering activites or opportunities. If you are having this issue, give this a shot:

Run your report in Classic and select Customize --> Select Report Properties and uncheck the Save Hierarchy Level checkbox --> save the report and return to lightning --> refresh your dashboard and the component should appear with data

I was also linked to this article, although this was not related to my issue: https://success.salesforce.com/issues_view?id=a1p3A000000JX1VQAW

Can you post a screenshot of the Report, and the Groupings, and Dashboard Component Settings that you're currently using and the results you're getting and create a mock-up of what you want your Dashboard Component to look like?

For questions related to Reports and Dashboards those are really helpful

Thanks

Hi Steve--thanks for you reply--here are some screenshots:

Report:

Dashboard: I'd lke the component to look like this (it does when I update the dashboard but not when I leave and come back):

User-added image

But the real component looks like this:

The dashboard component is set up like this: Display as Donut Chart, Value = Record Count, Sliced By = Created Date, Display Units = Shortened Number (show values, combine small groups into "others", and show total all checked), Decimal Places = 0, Sort Rows by = Value Descending, Custom Link = NULL, Max Values Displayed = 90.

I tried adding a chart to the report and then selecting "Use chart settings from report" on the dashboard component but that did not work. This checkbox is unchecked on the dashboard component now.

Any ideas? Would other screenshots be useful?
