How do I assign Assets only to Accounts?

We have decided to fully implement/embrace Assets in our org, but I am struggling to find a way to create & assign an Asset to an Account without also assigning it to a Contact.

 

SF Documentation states that both are not needed: "Each asset must be associated with an account or contact." However, I am hit with a field-required error if I attempt to save a new Asset for an Account without selecting a Contact. 

 

Is anyone aware of any workarounds? Or am I missing something that's right under my nose? There are no validation rules in place on Assets.

Patrick, the Contact Name field definitely isn't required. can you Edit the layout of Asset by clicking on the Edit Layout hyperlink on the top right corner of Asset record and making sure that the Contact field is not required?
