auto number has exceeded the digits in the display format... even when changing the prefix

We had an auto number field with this display format 3{000000} once it hit 3999999 it moved to 30000001 ... we wanted it to start with 4000001... we changed the display format to 4{000000} however it is still 8 digits.. could there be another setting?

Okay you could probably do something like this.  Export a file with the current Autonumber Values and Record ID.
Then change the datatype of the Field from Autonumber to Text
Fix the records that were assigned the wrong autonumber
Then change the datatype of the Field from Text to Autonumber {0000000}  and set the new starting at the next value you want to assign.

So you wanted to to start with 3000000 and then add 1 number like this 3000001, 3000002, 3000003... until it got to 3999999 then go to 4000000, 4000001...?

For that you needed to select this format {0000000} and use a Starting Number: 3000000

What you did:  3{000000} basically "Hard Coded" the "3" at the front, and limited your Auto-Number to 6 digits

It seems who ever set it up set it up wrong.. we want only 7 digits... so after it hits the last 3###### we wanted it to go to 4######

Yeah, then you need to do what I posted

Select this format {0000000}

and use a Starting Number: 3000000
