strange field remnant

Hello folks,
I'm trying to clean up something from a prior developer who shall remain nameless, and I'm running around in circles.

I have a custom object, called Project Consultant.  It had a parent/child  releationship with Contact, which I was able to get rid of (details not relevant here).  It also has a relationship with a custom object called Project.  When I try to delete that relationship, I get a message that says "This object containing this lookup has a summary field in another object. Remove the summary usage and try again.".  The Section listing on the error screen says "Project Custom Fields: Total Project Hours".  When I click on that link, it takes me to the Project object.  Project has no summary fields at all.  There is nothing called "project custom fields" anywhere, and no field with this name.  Unless they're hidden even from the Administrator?  Or there's some crazy remnant someplace? Project does not have a LEX page, which was part of the problem with the Contact link.  I can't find Total Project Hours on anything.

This is stopping me from cleaning up a very dodgy data structure, and it's also driving me completely insane.  Any thoughts?  I'd very much appreciate any help.

Check if you deleted field is in the 'deleted fields' section (only in classic).  You have to fully and permanently delete those rollup summary fields for that error message to clear.

Thank you so much, Tom!  That was exactly it.  I'd completely forgotton that bit in Classic.  Now the field, deleted 4 years ago by that other consultant, is erased, and the entire child object gone.  I can move on!  Thanks again.

Yes, not having that available in Lightning is maddening.

Good luck with the rest of your clean-up efforts!
