My summary report is not showing the fields it is grouped by in customize

This is a report to track the changes to fields, I want to group the changes to this one field per month, but because I cannot get to the field when customizing, I cannot do this.

The preview also says there are no records, but when I run the report there are.

Please see the 2 screenshots.

Any sugeThe customize version not showing the Field/Event, nor the Edited DateShowing the 'grouped by' fields that I cannot see.stion welcome.

This appears to be specific to filters on History reports. I've found that removing any filters I have on History Data fields will cause my summary fields to no longer be visible in the report builder. If you remove the filter, make any changes that you need to summaries, then put the filter back, your 'Run Report' should come out correctly. Not sure if this is a known issue, but hope it helps.

Hi Elisabeth,

There is no summarised field in your report builder screenshot but there is in your report run screenshot.  Is that because you developed the report since taking the screenshot?  Or are they different environments, e.g. report run in production but edited in sandbox, hence no data?

I can see 'Details' are selected in the report run, but is that also the case in the builder?  If 'Details' are hidden in the report builder, the preview is empty.  Click 'Show' next to 'Add Chart' and select 'Details'.

In the builder you should be able to include 'Edit Date' as shown on the report run, click arrow next to it's column header and select 'Group Dates By...' 'Month'.

Thanks,
Mike.

THAT IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM!!!!

I cannot see the summarised field in my report builder even though in theory it should. That was the previous screenshot of my report builder. Below is the screenshot of the report run (you should be able to see the difference).

To answer the rest of your questions (and thank you for taking the time to try and help me)
  1. The screenshots are of the same report, no development happened between the one and the next screenshot (the one from the builder and the one from the report run)
  2. The reports are not in different environments. They are both in my production environment.
I know I should be able to group by Month, as soon as I can get to the field in the report builder....

The show details in the same report

Very strange (and frustrating!)

Are you using the standard report type?

I tried building a report using the standard Case History report type in a Development Edition org and was able to group by Edit Date in months (and get a preview!):

It doesn't look like a complex report, can you try building it from scratch?

Most frustrating part is that in another Salesforce instance I manage, I now have the same problem, in a totally unrelated report. It seems to me that the last upgrade broke a functionality.

Interesting - my DE is still on Spring 16, are you on Summer?
Mike ArthurMike Arthur
I have another org which is on Summer 16 and I get same behaviour as you - when I group by field / event, the groupings disappear.

Well that was happening, since typing the above I did some more testing and now it's ok!

Try yours - see what you get!

I am now getting the same problems in the Winter 17 release. The Grouping function is there in the report builder, then it disappears after running the report a few times. I can't edit to change or add to the groups.

I have had the same issue.  It is frustrating becuase the grouping will show for a flashin customize if I add another lever but then goes away and then it can only be seen when the report is run.
I know the you can get rid of the grouping if you remove all the columns and start over but that is not very practical.

It is a bug, Hopefully Salesforce will catch on and repair it.

Bug appears to be still there?
Elisabeth KooijmansElisabeth Kooijmans
No, I think it is resolved. I am now able to group the date again and the grouping options seem to have become more extensive. That probably broke it in the first place.

I am having the exact issue, have been working with a few reports and all of a sudden in one of the reports the grouping fields in a summary report disappear, though I see them when I run the report. But when I edit the report, I sometimes see them for half a second and then they are gone again. Cannot change them anymore. Why does this happen?????

Me too!  Fields dropped into the summary level are not displayed on the screen.  I believe this is a bug and would love to see it fixed!  Can't afford to remove complex filter logic each time I want to change the summary levels.  Does this on Matrix reports as well.

I'm having this same issue. Using the suggestions I am now able to group by Edit Date, but I'd also like to further "Group Dates by" and I'm not able to do that. Does anyone have a solution?
Duane PetersenDuane Petersen
I found a solution that does not involve removing and rebuilding the filters (and logic if applicable) as I was not able to make it work with removing and reinstalling the filters. I also found this faster than reinstalling the filters/logic for my scenario.

The steps:
1... Switched from a Summary Format to a Tabular Format report
2...To play it safe, I removed all fields from the Preview field row  (I am not certain that field removal was really needed)
3...Hit save
4...Switched it back over to a Summary Format report
5...Added the display fields back in
6...Set the groupings to the desired configuration
7...Hit save

I hope this helps.
