Cannot enable Enhanced Email for Lightning for Gmail

Spring 17 has released Lightning for Gmail which is awesome. However, I can't seem to find how to enable Enhanced Email for Lightning for Gmail, which theoretically allows users to associate an email to any record in salesforce from within the panel.

All documentation says you have to make sure Enhanced Email is enabled (it is), and that enable the feature from the Lightning for Gmail setup page - but I can't find that option anywhere. Is this something that we need salesforce to activate first?

Hi All guys, I've just got a feedback from SF support. you should ask Tier 3 (contact SF support) to enable the follow feature (I copy and past from their message: "Enhanced Email with Lightning for Outlook Enabled". (Also if we are talking about GMAIL, this Outlook setting must be enabled. Just Tier 3 can enable it. So, call the Support and ask them to anable it on your org. If you need more support I can sed you the case number so SF support can check my case too for references. Let me know! Regards

Hi CS,

Thanks for the response. Actually, I know where the Lightning for Gmail setup page is. But, if you click that and go to the settings page, there is no setup option in that page to enable "Enhanced Email for Lightning for Gmail" (the feature that allows you to associate emails from gmail directly into a record. Would you know where that is?

See screenshot below.

Hi Donnie,
Enhanced Email Enabled by Default,
Enhanced Email is automatically enabled for most organizations except those that use Email-to-Case. If you use Email-to-Case and you’re ready to enable Enhanced Email, use these steps. This feature is available in both Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic.
  1. From Setup, enter Enhanced Email in the Quick Find box, then select Enhanced Email.
  2. Click Enable.
  3. Update the Email Message page layout to:
  4. Add the Related To field.
  5. Then, your users can see which records are related to an email.
Remove the Parent Case field from the Email Message page layout. This field is generally blank unless you use Email-to-Case and an email is associated with a case.

++ From Spring17 Lightning for Gmail is available in Beta. That mean you have to contact salesforce support to enable this feature for your org. Take a look here Lightning for Gmail (Beta)

I am having the exact same problem.
I downloaded the chrome extension. I Activated everything in Salesforce.
But There is nothing in the Chrome extension that allows me to push emails I write from gmail in Salesforce. And same about the emails I receive. I have nothing in Gmail that allows me to push it to Salesforce.

Thanks for your help.

@Naveen Thanks for your replies man. Unfortunately, it still does not answer my question. You've mentioned how to enable Enhanced Email which I have already done (it's enabled by default anyway). Now as for the link you've sent re considerations for Enhanced Email for Lightning for Gmail, that's saying exactly what I said earlier:

"To let sales reps experience Enhanced Email with Lightning for Gmail, first verify that Enhanced Email is enabled for your organization. Then, enable Enhanced Email for this feature from the Lightning for Gmail Settings page."

The enhanced email is enabled but somehow I can't find that section in the Lightning for Gmail Settings page where yoiu can enable Enhanced Email for Gmail. Hope that clarifies my question more.

Hey Jon,

Good to know I'm not the only one having this problem! It's the Enhanced Email with Lightning for Gmail - that's the feature that will allow users to push emails into records in salesforce which unfortunately, is nowhere to be found. The screenshots of the lightning chrome extension has the "add email" gray icon beside the record (similar to how it looks like on Lightning for Outlook or Salesforce for Outlook) so I am guessing it is just a setting that needs to be enabled, just like what the documentation says.

Thanks @Pritam. I got that release notes - Actually the Lightning for Gmail is working fine - i.e. the plugin in Chrome displays the records and I'm able to access Global Actions from there. What I am missing is this: Enhanced Email for Lighting for Gmail. (https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/spring17/release-notes/rn_sales_lightning_for_gmail_enhanced_email.htm?edition=&impact=) From how I understand it, most Beta features are available automatically (unless stated in the documentation that they need to be requested). I think you might have meant Pilot features?

Anyway, The documentation mentions a couple of steps to enable it but the second step seem to be missing. I've logged a case to salesforce anyway and it has been escalated to a higher tier. I will keep this thread updated once I get the answer. Thanks again for finding time to respond!

Got your point. Yes, I tried it and it's working for me. Where you tried to implement it? But it displayed like you can go to Chrome Web Store to make it available to your users and it only displays Production there.

That's awesome Pritam. Do you mean you have the add email buttons beside the records returned in the panel? Do you mind sharing screenshots of the panel, and the Lighning for Gmail setup page? What extra setup did you do?

I have tried pointing it to Production, got the Chrome extension and using Chrome. As I mentioned before, everything for me is working, except for the ability to associate emails (branded by salesforce as Enhanced Email for Lightning for Gmail).

Oh you might already know this but as for the Chrome Extension, you can go to the Chrome extensions page and in the options under the plugin, you can change the server url to point to Sandbox or a custom URL so you can test the whole setup in Sandbox still.

@donnie Hello. Thanks for this discussion which is very interesting for me too. Did you get any info from the SF support? I am having the same trouble. ;) Thank you

@Luca. Great to know there's another one affected by this. Unfortunately, I haven't had any luck with salesforce yet. Their customer support already gave me a call though and I've walked them through my issue and they said they will escalate it to a higher tier. Hopefully they get back soon. I will keep this thread posted with any updates.

Ciao Donnie! Thx! I've just called SF support. They are now checking: it seems some permissions are needed, permissions that just the Tier 3 can enable. So, I am waiting to get them. As soon as I will have info, I'll let you know. Keep us posted. Enjoy the day.

Thanks Luca! You're a legend! I will request from Tier 3 and once I got mine enabled, will mark this thread close with your answer!

@Donnie, Deal! I am waiting too for this feature. Tier 3 should enable it shortly and I'll keep you posted. just FYI my case number (that you can share to SF support if they wanna know more about it) is: #15736911
I am copying what they wrote me:

"Thank you for taking my call. This is Odette from Salesforce.com and I have taken ownership of your case 15736911. I see that Lightning for Gmail has already been set up and Enhanced email has been enabled for your Organization. However, you are still not seeing the relate icon in Gmail. This is because the permission "Enhanced Email with Lightning for Outlook Enabled" has not been enabled for your Organization. With that, letme go ahead and reach out to our Senior Support for assistance since they are the ones who has the permission to enable it. I will let you know once done so you can verify if the issue has been resolved or if you're still not seeing the relate icon. Cheers!"

Let's keep in touch. Regards.

Luca R. Fava PizLuca R. Fava Piz
Deal, let me know. The feautere seems to be working properly, so far. Just a small issue uploading attachments together with the email, but Tier 2 is also solving me it. Let me know if you'll have the same problem and I will let you know how to proceed. At least I can already log emails which is very good.
Keep in touch, Regards.

Thanks Luca! You are a star. This is useful information. I am hoping I get the permissions sorted by early next week and will check if I also encounter the same issue.

I'm having the exact same issue.  I will be creating my case now.

Only Extended Email is enabled by default in DEV edition boxes & after enabling Lightning for Gmail through Email Settings, I believe we need to reach out to Salesforce to get that enabled. However for Developer Editions we cannot raise a support case anymore. Hence facing the issue to test it completely.
White Shed CompanyWhite Shed Company
Hey Gaurav, If you have a a production environment (even your partner org if you are a partner), you can raise a support ticket from there and just quote your Developer Edition Org ID, instead of the Production org.
