Can I link my VOIP phone with salesforce?

When I make a call to a contact number in my salesforce database, is it possible to automatically have salesforce register that I made the call?  Even better, would salesforce automatically bring up the record related to that telephone number so I could enter notes?

This is definitely possible, but you you will need to leverage CTI (Computer Telephony Integration). Either developing your own adapter using the CTI Toolkit or going with a third party solution. There are several on the AppExchange

Were you able to find a solution for your question? I would like to recommend a 3rd part CTI solution called Callinize. Callinize offers integrations with more than 150 phone systems and Salesforce. They have tons of features such as click to dial, automatic call logging, easy note taking and task creation, screen pops on inbound and outbound calls, new lead/contact creation when no matching records, support for cases/opportunities and advanced analytics on the backend.
