Assigning a value to a field if another field is checked (checkbox)

I have a field that when checked (its a checkbox field), would need it to populate a value in another field.

For example, if the box was checked in field 'Y', field 'Z' would display a value of '10'.

Can anyone help me figure this out?

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

This would best be done with a workflow rule.  Whenever the checkbox is checked use a field update to give the second field the value you want.  So basic rundown of the rule:

When created or edited and did not previously meet....

Checkbox equals checked

Field update: field to update(field'Z') = whatever value you want.

If you are doing this for multiple checkboxes and still populating a single field, then you could use a formula field, and accumulate totals per checkbox that is checked.
