How do I delete a user?

How do I delete a user?

It isn't immediately apparent how to do this...

You can't delete a user, you can only deactivate them.

Thanks SteveMo - but that's very very strange.

Is there are *reason* why you can't delete a user?

It seems very restrictive and unhelpful...

My guess is that it would wreak havoc on records that were owned, created or edited by the deleted user, because any refernces to that user would become NULL and records cannot be owned by NULL

As an Admin I thinks it better that way, I never have trouble tracking down who did what, when, etc.

I agree with SteveMo .

You can also change the deactivated user's role to "Inactive" so that they won't show up on your list of Active Users to help clean up your views a bit in the Admin section. I have also found that you can (if you wish) change your user's email address/login name to DONOTUSE@donotuse.com if you wish, because even though it's a bit redundant, it makes some sf.com admins feel better knowing that that person's email address is no longer in any way associated with their salesforce.com account.
