Determine if imported Text Field is valid email address using Regex

I am trying to create a workflow that will determine if an imported text field is a valid email address. I am trying to use the Regex functionality and this is what I have so far (by the way it isn't working):

REGEX( Int_Email__c ,"[A-Z0-9._%+-]{1,}[@]{1}[A-Z0-9.-]{1,}[.]{1}[A-Z]{2,6}")

 Give this one a shot

REGEX(Int_Email__c,"\\w @[a-zA-Z_] ?\\.[a-zA-Z]{2,6}")

Thanks Steve - still not working. My work email address is and it is not validating and copying to my email field. Any other suggestions. BTW I looked on this website and am still having problems - please note I am not a programmer!
How does SFDC verify an email address for an Email type field??

Can you post the exact formula that you are using? I just tested your e-mail address with my VR on my Dev and it worked fine.
Just out of curiosity why is the datatype of your custom field Text instead of Email?

Also, are you looking for a Validation Formula, or a Workflow Rule?  If it's a Workflow Rule what is your Workflow Action?

Steve -  a little background. We are integrating data from a backend system that currently has no controls on how an email address is entered. When the record is imported into SFDC, it errors out on the entire record if the email address does not meet the proper SFDC required format for email. To fix this we are importing into a text field and then I have created a workflow to move the "email address" to an email address field. The reasoning then is that we can run a report to see what legacy data needs to be corrected.
I am using workflow to move the data from the import field to the email field. Formula for the criteria is as follows:

REGEX(Int_Email__c,\\w @[a-zA-Z_] ?\\.[a-zA-Z]{2,6})

Okay, unfortunately there is no "Beat All End All" REGEX Email Validation formula
If your ultimate goal is to make sure that the Email Addresses from your backend system passes muster with SFDC then I think you've gotta call SFDC Support (or your SFDC AE) and get the exact REGEX Formula that SFDC uses internally.
Or find someone with a bigger brain than me (that one should be easy)
