Is there a way to enable Sender ID Compliance to improve mass email deliverability and, at the same time, get around having the   no-reply@salesforce.com be part of the "From" address?

Did you ever get an answer to your question or find out a solution to this? as my customer is facing exactly the same issue with a Service Cloud implementation.  I think Email Replying (https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewHelpDoc?language=en&id=email_relay.htm) seems to be the only solution i can find for this but it would be good to know if that helped you.

You could use the Email relay feature in Salesforce. If this is enabled what happens is, it allows you to route all the emails that are going out from your Salesforce Org. through your internal mail server. This will resolve the issue.
