How can I import data into custom fields?

I created custom fields under the Contracts tab and now have a CSV file that I wish to import the data from, and I am unable to use the Import Wizard, and the Apex Data Loader won't let me log in.  Can someone help?
Thanks!!

Why won't the data loader let you in? Are you getting an error? Are you logging in with your name password and security token?

I see now that I am supposed to add my security token to the end of my password, but that does not work either.  Maybe I am using an old security token?  How do I find out what the current one is, without resetting it?  I don't want to have to re-set everything (like LInkPoint360) that depends on a security code?
Thanks!

Kari

I don't think you can just view it without resetting it. Can you search your mail client for emails that have "Salesforce.com security token confirmation" in the subject? If you have multiple ones then go with the most recent.

Yes, I did search my email right away and used the most recent one, that is the one that is not working.  That is why I was wondering if I should use the Import Custom Objects Wizard vs. the Apex Data Loader.  I only have 125 lines of data with about 13 fields.  The fields of course, are already built in SF.

Did you or anyone have additonal thoughts on this?  Or can help me use the Import Wizard vs. Data Loader?

Thanks!!

Did you try and reset your token? It doesn't really impact much of anything other than logging in when your token is required. If you have access to the Data Loader I would use that over the import wizard. The wizard is simply lacking compared to the Data Loader.

Above and beyond that do you have specific questions about using the Loader?

We use LInkPoint 360 and Vanguard Vista Survey with SalesForce, both of which I also administer, and they depend on my security token, so I was just hesitant to reset my security token, and have to reset it in both of those places...that at least I am aware of.  But if Data Loader is that superior to the Wizard, I will go through the process of resetting the token...

I am not sure how involved it will be to update those other platforms with the new token but yeah the data loader is so much better than the import wizard. Unless it's a major ordeal to update, I would reset my token.

I'm not sure either...but I'll go ahead and update the token to take advantage of the Data Loader for my current needs as well as future imports.
Thanks much for your help!
