How do I change the layout for an opportunity only in a specific profile?

I went into the specific profile, changed the layout only in the record type thats assigned to this profile, but the layout changed everywhere, not just in the specific layout for this profile.

How do i make sure it only changes for one profile?

Did you change the page layout assignment from this page: 

  1. Click Your Name | Setup | Customize, select the appropriate activity or tab link, and choose Page Layouts or Record Types..
  2. In the page layout or record type list page, click Page Layout Assignment.
  3. Click Edit Assignment.

From that screen you will be able to chose a page layout per profile per record type.

Yes that’s exactly what I did.



I saw the table with all profiles and the assigned Opportunity layouts for
each profile.



However, it changed the layout for everyone.



Really strange.

Hmmm ... are you sure not all of them were highlighted in blue? This happened to me at first with dependent picklists which has a similar UI.

Everything that you select in blue will be updated, not just the cell selected when you change the layout. You can select multiple cell by clicking on SHIFT or CTRL ... so it's easy to select too many cells inadvertently.

Are you able to see this screenshot?



I only edited one cell, nothing else is blue highlighted.



I only clicked on the cell Planner – Standard Layout. Editedt it and saved.
And it changed for our entire range of profiles.

I can't see the screenshot. To add screenshots you need to go to the website ... you can't add them via email

That said, do you have an old browser? Maybe that's why the tool is not working as expected? Can you try in another browser to see if the same thing happens?
