Customer Portal users

Dear Salesforce,

Can you please clarify what's the difference between Named and Unnamed users for Customer Portal:

1) What type of licence does Unnamed user recieve?
2) Does unnamed user need to be added as a contact in CRM?
3) Is self-registration is possible for Unnamed users?

Thanks un advance,
Anna.

Named users normally are created from Contacts using a Salesforce license type that assigns one Customer Portal license to that one user. This means you have to purchase a number of licenses for the number of contacts you want to become Customer Portal Users.

Unnamed users are users created from Contacts that uses a license type that maybe unlimited. This means you can have an unlimited number of Contacts become Customer Portal users but the license type maybe restricted to logins per month.

You can specify what license type will be used at Self-Registration so that the unnamed Customer Portal user can be created.

Self-Registration actually creates both a Contact record and a User record for the Customer Portal. User.

Dear mattybme1,

Thanks for the response. However, we still have questions:

1) What's the name of license used for Unnamed user? We'd like to test it in our test org. Can you please tell me what exact licence I need to assign to the user if I need him/her to be Unnamed?
2) How self-registration is being set up? We've created Customer Portal in our test org, but self-registration doesn't work. The e-mail sent to test user says "you are ineligible for registering an account at this time".
3) Where we can see the statistics of logins per month in Customer Portal?

Waiting for your feedback,
Anna.

Here is a great resource for Customer Portal: http://developer.force.com/consultants/crc_page?name=CustomerPortal that might help towards setting up Self-Registration. To be honest in the last 3 portal implementation I have done I have never enable self-registration.

I do know what the licenses might be called as they are called different things by Salesforce. You might be able to see the license name by navigating to your name>Setup>Administration Setup>Company Profile>Company Information and look at the section named Feature Licenses.
