I agree with the comments that if multi-select picklists are an option, Salesforce needs to support proper reporting on them. What a disappointment that we have to add on a third-party app that isn't even real-time and can't be refreshed in order to get some level of reporting on multi-select picklists.

This is an essential feature for a full Activity Management solution, as it is likely that an event would have 'topics' or 'types' where multiple can be selected. To then understnd any form of duration reporting (such as how long have we spent in meetings that were focused on Business Development), this is essential. As Activity Management is a significant part of our usage, this is a feature we cannot cope without, and will need to look at reporting alternatives (auto feed to PowerBI?) to get this level of reporting.

There's so many of these, what could be considered, basic needs that arentt addressed. How can this not be done?
They are right:

I agree with Greg, there is no realistic way of reporting from this type of field. It's been on the road map for 12 years! A few years ago it was "a couple of releases away". Please prioritize this!!

If multi select picklists are an option (and of course they are) then they need to be supported with a realistic way ot reporting, other than the creation of more (formula) fields. This is a must and is overdue.

An few observations:
- It has been 12 years with no resolution. Google the problem. Plenty of commentary on the evils of MSPLs
- I imagine that providing this functionality might also require providing a tool to "translate" current MSPL data into some future variant of MSPL data
- Everytime Salesforce spents millions or billions on a new aquisition, I wonder why they couldn't have taken some of that money to solve this problem (but I'm not bitter). <grin>
Perhaps, instead of storming Area 51, conspiracy theorists and geeks of all stripes should storm Salesforce Tower until a solution is provided. <Just Kidding>

We are also in need of a solution for this problem as well. Our use case involves tracking a multi-select picklist for our implementation team to characterize reasons for escalations with our onboarding projects. We want to identify and report against the trends but it's hard to do today, because when something is escalated is commonly because of multiple reasons. Forcing our project managers to select only the "primary concern" is not ideal and may mask some trends because we force them to pick just one only to get better reporting.
This escalations concept is something we have in our full team dashboard and it's not nearly as useful as it should be without this component. And exporting and running a pivot table means it's extra work outside of the system and not real time.
We'd REALLY REALLY love to have this delivered so we can continue to use Salesforce not only as a CRM but a system of record for context into WHY things are happen. That's super helpful for key business decisions.

Hi all - we're still tracking this idea, which would take multiple release to work on. We have instead been focusing on other report and dashboard features, including the ones you've helped us prioritize like row level formulas and field to field filtering. We'll continue to consider this as we evolve our roadmap.
