you can use this chrome extenison https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/salesforce-datametadata-u/jkmajpplbomebfegjjagbeoblheeehld for counting the total records in a list view. Supports both classic and Lightning. Note: the user should have API access for this feature to work.

On a daily basis, we like to have a quick view of how many cases need attention within each specific folder (email address).
On a weekly basis, at our team meeting, I need to quickly provide the number of cases currently in each specific folder.
According to the comments here, this feature would be helpful to many and it is hopeful that it is added > a simple number within parenthesis next to each folder; ie Email Folder One (32), Email Folder Two (17), Email Folder Three (231).
Thank you for your consideration.

This functionality should be basic in any CRM. Other tools, of lower cost and that are not leaders, have this functionality in their standard.
I understand the cost of always calculating the number of records in the list, but at least have the possibility of being able to check it on demand.

Please make this funcionality work like in Classic. This is beyond annoying and I can't have core users fully moved into Lightning because of this limitation which makes their work difficult and frustrating. Thank you for listening to your users and all the great work Salesforce does.
