Being able to track communications with Contacts is core functionality for Customer Relationship Management. Or at least your competitors certainly think so. NetSuite had this basic functionality 7 years ago when I was a consultant for them!
If Lightning development was enhancing this in some other way it would be a reasonable excuse but instead the focus appears to be cutsie Einstein on a bicycle icons and fancy layouts which do NOT help with Customer Relationship Management at all! It is all show & no substance.

how utterly embarrassing must it be for people like jason teller to have to come write such lame excuses for something that should be part of baseline functionality, is being requested for years and years, and have to add words like "awesome" in this pathetic context. I feel for you, your job must be really tough. nothing "awesome" around here.

We can send emails with Flow...and then create a completed Activity to log that the email was sent. Adding this to core Email Alert as a checkbox setting would be very nice for User Experience. I find that most people want to get that visual indication in their console that an Email as in fact sent.
